City Clerk's Office
The City Clerk’s Office plays a key role in supporting the Mayor, City Council, and the City Administrator. It manages official City records, assists with public information requests, and collaborates with King County to oversee local elections. The office also makes sure the City government is open and transparent to the public. As the City’s Public Records Officer, the City Clerk's Office oversees the organization of records and ensures the City adheres to laws regarding public records and open meetings.
The City Clerk is also part of the City’s leadership team and helps people access important city information.
What We Do
Our job is to help City Hall run smoothly, keep everyone informed, and make it easier for people to get involved with local government. Here's a brief list of what the City Clerk’s Office is responsible for:
- Being the first point of contact when you come to City Hall.
- Fielding requests or concerns from residents.
- Assisting people with the correct licenses for doing business in the City.
- Issuing pet licenses in partnership with King County.
- Managing the list of vendors and contractors the City can hire.
- Supporting the Mayor and City Council with paperwork and Council meeting preparations.
- Helping to organize City Council meetings and make sure all departments are ready.
- Notifying the public about meetings, bids, and official notices.
- Writing up and sharing the official minutes from City Council meetings.
- Making sure meetings follow open government laws.
- Working with King County on elections and voter information.
- Helping the City follow state rules for open government.
- Keeping track of all official City documents.
- Maintaining the City’s Municipal Code (the City's rulebook).
- Managing reservations for City-owned meeting spaces.
Please note that the City Clerk's Office does not offer Notary services.
